Rough day

Poor JD had a rough morning! We took him for his 4 month vaccinations but it turned out to be even worse! He handled everything pretty well but has been sleeping for the past couple of hours!

When we got to the doctor's office the nurse took us back to the exam room and had us undress him so he could be weighed and measured. He now weighs 14 pounds, 7 ounces. I'm not happy with his weight gain - he was in the 68th percentile, now he's in the 43rd - but the doctor said it was good and didn't seem concerned about it.

After getting him weighed and measured the nurse asked us about the blood in his stool. We told her it was still there so she said she wanted to draw some blood and just run a quick test to make sure it was okay. She came back and pricked his toe (he didn't like that too much but didn't scream)... the blood test was fine.

Then the doctor came in and examined him. He noticed a couple of places on his penis where the foreskin had started to reattach from where his circumcision was done so he tugged hard and unattached it again. JD squirmed and fussed a little but it looked way worse that if felt, I guess.

We discussed the blood in the stool at length with the doctor. He seemed concerned that the blood was still there (even though his nurse said it could take 3 more months for it to go away) and that it seemed to still be bothering JD. In fact, there has been more blood in the past couple of days than we've ever seen! Granted, it's still not a lot, just more than usual. The doctor said it's possible he could have a polyp and wants us to see a pediatric radiologist to have a scope done. We will have to go to either Charleston or Columbia to have this done. They are checking to see which office can see us sooner and will let us know in the next several days. I asked what that would entail and he said they would sedate JD and stick a probe up his hiney. Kind of like a colonsocopy.

Lastly were the vaccinations. There were only 2 shots and I didn't cry this time! JD didn't know what hit him until after the second shot when he screamed but he settled quickly when I nursed him. MUCH better than his 2 month shots. He has yet another round of vaccinations at 6 months on December 12. I think he's done after that for a little while....

Dave brought him home and my parents sat with him while I went to my doctor's appointment, just an annual check up and flu shot. He was still sleeping when I got here but he woke just a bit ago, ate and is now sleeping again in his swing.

So that's it! That's our eventful day.... I'll be sure to post as soon as I know when we go to Charleston or Columbia.

Finally got to catch up on my Nephew. That whole re-attach thing had to be painful; he is just tough...... Seriously, our pediatrician explained to us that we need to "skin it back" each time ours were bathed and clean real well there as well as to teach the boys to do the same thing when they were old enough to bathe themselves. Man that was a long time ago!

Something I remember about immunization shots is that our Pediatrician always had us to give them Tylonol prior to our leaving and that way it would take effect during the time they were getiing stuck with needles.

Tell everyone hello.
