Gone!

I did hear from the pediatrician's office yesterday but ran out of time before I went to bed so I didn't get a chance to post.

Good news: The bacteria that was tearing up his large intestine is gone! Now we just have to wait for the ulcers to heal.

Bad news: The nurse said it could take 3 more months for the blood in his stool to go away. :-(

I really didn't get much more information. Every time I asked a question, the nurse told me to discuss it with the doctor on Monday when we go in for his shots. So, I have a long list of questions for the doctor on Monday. I can only assume that he's still screaming in pain because the ulcers are still there. I can only assume that they don't bother him all the time, but that they flare up occasionally, because he sometimes poops like a normal baby. I can only assume that there's nothing more we can do besides wait it out! These are just a few of the questions... I sure hope the doctor is in a talkative mood on Monday!

Dave thinks it's time to start JD on rice cereal. I've been holding off because I'm hesitant to introduce anything new to his little system while it's so torn up. Now that we know the bacteria is gone and the healing process is underway, Dave wants to try it. JD is showing all the signs of readiness. He can sit up (assisted, of course), shows interest in our food while we're eating and his tongue thrust reflex is gone..... Not to mention he has been a horrible sleeper lately (I got up 10 times last night!). Hopefully some rice cereal in the evening will lead to more sleeping in the coming weeks.

So, tonight JD will have his first actual bites of food tonight. I'll be sure to have the camera ready as I'm sure it's going to be messy and so cute!
