I thought I would post a very quick update while the boy is sleeping.
He still has blood in his stool. I called the pediatrician's office today and the nurse called me back. She sounded surprised that the blood is still there and asked if he still has discomfort. The answer to that is yes...and no! Most of the time he's just fine. But, there are times, like last night and this morning, that he still screams his head off while kicking his legs and squirming around, trying to find a comfortable position. I told her that Dave and I want a follow-up stool culture, even though they don't normally do that sort of thing. She said that was fine.
However, we've been giving him Colic Calm. It's a form of gripe water to help with the gas and to help settle his stomach. There is an ingredient in it called vegetable charcoal that turns his poop black! So, we have to stop using the Colic Calm for 48 hours so we can get a "clean" stool sample and then bring a dirty diaper to the lab at the hospital. I'll do this on Friday and the nurse said she should be able to call me on Monday or Tuesday with some results.
If the bacteria is still there I assume we'll do another round of antibiotics. If the bacteria is gone the doctor will want to see him so we can try to figure out exactly why this still has not gone away!
In other news, Dave's sister Debby is in town for the next couple of months...and we're all very excited! Dave is planning to put her to work at the golf course and I'm just excited to have somebody to hang out with!
This Saturday we're attending my cousin's wedding in Charleston and Sunday JD will be 4 months old! That means a new pic of him in the chair with the bear!!
