Thankful for chaos

Yesterday my day went a little something like this:

8:30 AM - Drop JD off at school - in the rain
8:45 - 9:15 AM - Grocery shopping with Allie - in the rain
9:15 - 9:45 AM - Unload groceries - in the rain - and put groceries away. Pack Allie's lunch
9:45 AM - Take Allie to gymnastics
10:15 - 11:00 AM - Mom & Tot gymnastics class with Allie
11:15 AM - drop Allie off at Nana's house and race to Pawleys for a hair appointment
12:00 - 12:45 PM - hair appointment...thank goodness. I was looking a little rough after being in the rain all morning!
1:00 - 3:15 PM - out at the construction site. Supposed to meet cabinet guy at 1:00 PM but he showed 90 minutes late only after I called to find out where he was!
3:15 PM - race to Murrells Inlet to get Allie from Nana's house and then race to Myrtle Beach to get JD from school
4:15 PM - Pick JD up from school and take kids home. Order pizza
4:30 - 6:15 PM - Feed kids pizza (mom of the year, right here!) and spend lots of time looking at videos of exterior paint samples that Dave sent me from the construction site.
6:30 PM - Decide I can't make a decision on paint via video clips. Throw some clothes into a bag and strap kids in. Drive BACK to Pawleys (a 45 minute trip, one way), praying there's enough daylight left when I get there to actually look at said paint samples.
7:15 PM - Arrive in Pawleys, decide on paint colors, put kids in jammies and into bed just in time to watch the season premier of Glee at 8:00 PM
9:30 PM -  Collapse into bed, exhausted from all of the running around.... only to get up before daylight today so I can drive an hour from Pawleys to Myrtle Beach to make a 9:00 AM doctor's appointment for Allie....yet another ear infection!

CHAOS, right?!?! There was not one single moment of down time yesterday. And it's so easy to get overwhelmed on days like this. I'm not going to lie... I felt totally overwhelmed yesterday. But this morning, after a surprisingly good night's rest, I woke up and was thankful for our chaos.

We are so blessed to have two beautiful, healthy (in the sense that they don't have any serious or debilitating illnesses) children. We are also incredibly blessed to have the ability to be building our dream house in a beautiful location. And when I think about it, the house and the kids are the source of all the chaos in my life.... so what's not to be thankful for, right?

So speaking of house and kids, it's been a while since I've given you any photos... lets start with the kiddos!

Buckled up in the back of the Porsche... in the driveway

Allie buckled up too.. she thought she was big stuff!

We do a lot of this these days!

At the park... I wanted to get pics of JD too but he was way too fast for the shutter lag on my iPhone!

JD standing on my dad's cannonball... something he's not supposed to do but sometimes you just have to snap a pic before telling him to get down!

I know, I know...this isn't of the kids but I think it's noteworthy. This is me with my friend Liz on our first ever Mom's Night Away in Charleston. Yep, we skipped town for one night, left the kids with the husbands and went to Charleston to dance the night away... we had so much fun!!

JD sleeping at the doctor's office during his latest illness... a "mystery virus" that gave him a 104 degree fever.... I'm SO glad it wasn't his ear!

My filthy little girl out at the construction site. A dirty kid's a happy kid, right?

Having a snack with Nana and Daddy. We're SO glad Nana and Poppy are here this week!!

Playing in the sand box with Papaw

Walking to the house with Grandma

This cracked me up. JD misjudged the space between our cars and totally got stuck. He couldn't move at all!
.... And now for the latest pics of the house. Just to get you caught up: The house is completely framed, the fire places and chimney are complete (and are beautiful, I might add), plumbers are almost done, electricians are getting started, roof is on the the roofers are working on the shingles this week, the board and batten siding is on the lower half of the house and will be painted either today or tomorrow (hence my need to drive down at 7:00 last night to pick out paint colors)... so here are tons of pics!

Dave standing on the roof of the back porch. This was a couple of weeks ago...

Our builder thought I was nuts when I told him I wanted to tape off all of the counter areas so I could get a feel for the kitchen. I needed to decide what to put where, cabinet-wise, before meeting the cabinet guy!

This was a couple of weeks ago too....

JD found the shop vac and pitched in. He has also been dragging a large magnet behind him and picking up bent nails!

Upstairs fireplace in the living room. Can't wait to get the mantel!

Close up of the chimney detail. It looks so great!

Another feature I wasn't expecting but love... vaulted ceiling on the back porch!!

The guys rented a 45 foot man lift in order to easily get supplies up to the top floor and work on the roof. Dave took me up in it last weekend and I got some great pictures! This is the back of the house. The floor of the back porch is 99% done. I already enjoy sitting out there!

Left side of the house from way-up-high

Front of the house from way-up-high

I took this yesterday. Siding is up on the bottom half of the house. It will not stay this color, though. They were supposed to paint today but of course, it's raining.... oh! Also notice WE HAVE WINDOWS!!!
So now you're caught up. I promise I'll try to post more regularly amid my happily chaotic days....

The Zoo!

Mom and I loaded the kids into the car last weekend and headed to Columbia for the weekend. My best friend (since I was a tiny, tiny kid), Brandie, lives there and it had been MUCH too long since I had visited her. She has an 8 year old girl and 4 1/2 year old boy and my kids just adore them!

We arrived on Saturday around noon, ate some pizza and headed out the door to the zoo with 4 adults and 6 kids. Amazingly, not one kid acted up while we were out!  Here are some pictures from our trip:

After the zoo we headed back to Brandie's new (gorgeous) house. After putting the kids to bed it was nice to just sit and catch up. JD didn't sleep very well that night, though because he has a horrible cough. He seriously coughed all night (I should know, we were sharing a bed!). Allie slept well, thank goodness! We woke on Sunday and went to Brandie's mom's house for lunch. Miss June always cooks a big lunch on Sunday. When I say big, I mean BIG! We were so stuffed! I hated to eat and run, but because of JD's lack of sleep the prior night, he was not quite acting like the sweet boy I know he is. We put them back in the car and headed home. With the exception of a crying spell that lasted about 30 minutes, JD slept the entire 3 hours home. Allie slept for an hour but was good the rest of the way.

We had a ball and I can't wait to have Brandie and the kids come stay with us when the house is finished!
