North End Shower

I went to my second baby shower yesterday. My very close friend Liz threw it for me and did a terrific job (as she's currently dealing with the headaches of a first trimester pregnancy). Everything was beautiful and a ton of people attended. John David really racked up again and we now have almost everything we need for his arrival!

Me at 27 weeks, 5 days.... that's a big belly!

Liz took a picture of our nursery bedding to the bakery and
they designed the cake to match... it was very yummy!

I was given 2 diaper cakes and they were both beautiful!

This one was made by my friend Stephanie... this is the first diaper cake she's ever made. I was impressed!

John David's HUGE pile of gifts... we're so fortunate to have so many friends who love us so much!

27 weeks, 1 day

I just got back from my doctor's appointment and everything looks good. I passed my 1 hour glucose test so I can keep eating sugar (thank goodness!).... JD's heart rate was around 145, my iron count is good, I've gained a total of 34 pounds and my uterus is measuring 31 weeks. A little bit ahead but Dr. Nelson said it's not a big deal... could just be the way JD is lying.

I have an ultrasound on April 3, 2008 and my next doctor's appointment is on April 15, 2008.

Good Friday

What a productive day! I had my 1 hour glucose test today to check for gestational diabetes. I woke up at 4:00 AM... I had to pee and then couldn't go back to sleep so I got out of bed at 5:00 AM and made myself sausage and eggs for breakfast (not supposed to eat anything sugary before the test so cereal was out). Then I worked on thank you notes from my shower last weekend until Dave woke up at 7:00. After he left for work I went to the lab for my test. When I got there I had to drink a ridiculously syrupy sweet, orange flavored drink and sit in the waiting room for an hour. After an hour, they drew my blood and I was free to go! I'll find out the results of the test at my next doctor's appointment on Tuesday.

On the way home from the test I stopped at a nursery and picked out a butterfly bush to plant for Ashlyn. I got a multi colored one so it will have blooms of several different colors on the same plant. When Dave got home from work (around 1:30 or so) we planted it on the pond bank in our back yard. I can't wait until it blooms!

Planting that one bush got Dave in the mood to do yard work so off to Lowe's we went! We bought several more plants to place on the pond bank as that is the only part of our yard that's unfinished and the soil erodes every time we have rain. Of course, when the boys across the street saw us unloading the truck, they wanted to help us "bury" the plants. Planting with a 4.5 year old and a 2.5 year old is quite interesting!

Once everything was planted we cleaned ourselves up and went out for Mexican... now it's time to be lazy and do nothing!

South End Shower (3-15-08)

I am so bad about posting things on time! In all honesty, it took me longer than expected to sit down and load the pictures from the shower onto the computer. My very first shower was a ton of fun. It was great to see everyone and JD really racked up! We received a lot of very nice gifts that will certainly come in handy when he makes his appearance. The day after the shower I did 2 loads of baby laundry and started putting things in his dresser drawers. It's funny how baby laundry is a lot more fun than regular laundry!... I probably won't be saying that this time next year! I've posted some pictures below.... most of the pictures taken with my camera came out dark so there are only a couple. As other people email pictures that they took I'll post those too.

Dave took this picture of me on Saturday night after I got home from the shower.... this is my 26 week belly shot!

This cake was absolutely adorable and just as yummy! Made by Cakes by the Sea in Longs, SC

All of JD's loot after it had been carried into the house.....

Nursery Progress

It's been a while since I've posted! The crib is now together and the rest of the furniture is in the nursery. Although the room is far from complete I wanted to post a few pics so everyone could see our progress. The furniture is not in it's final "placement", we still need curtains and stuff on the walls and, while I like the idea of a rug in front of the recliner, I want a green one to match the bedding. Also, the table beside the recliner is way too big so I'll have to find a smaller one.... so much to do!

In other news.... my very first baby shower is today down in Pawleys Island. I'm very excited but it is kind of bittersweet. I picked up the cake yesterday and written on it was "John David is on his way!".... it's a super cute cake but all I could think was that I wish Ashlyn's name was on that cake too. I can't wait to see everybody and celebrate John David but I think it will be a little bit of a hard day too. I'm sure I'll go through these same emotions on the 29th at my "North end" shower. I'll post pics of the shower tomorrow.....

Nursery Paint

The grandmothers worked very hard today and did a beautiful job painting the nursery... Now all we have to do is steam the carpet, install an extra vent in that room (it gets very cold in there during the winter) and then the furniture can go in!!!
