So JD and I are having lunch with my girlfriend yesterday when the pediatrician's office calls my cell phone. I'm thinking that they have a date and time for the radiologist... not so much!
Here's the back story: While at the doctor's office on Monday, JD obligingly pooped. The doctor decided to send a sample from a very "fresh" diaper to the lab to have it tested...just one more time. As he's swabbing the diaper he asks what lab we want to take it to.... WHAT?!?! We have a choice?? You mean I don't have to spend half of my day doing paperwork at the hospital just to give them some baby poo?!?!? Fan-freakin-tastic! I tell him I would like to take it to Labcorp because it's right down the hall from my OB/GYN's office which is where I was going right after JD's shots anyway! So I leave the doctor's office with a lab order and a bit of baby poo in a vial and drop it off at Labcorp...easy peasy!
Not so easy: The nurse that called during lunch tells me that the sample I dropped off at Labcorp wouldn't be accepted because it wasn't in the proper container.... give me a break! So the nurse tells me that I have to go to Labcorp to pick up the container. Bring it and JD to the pediatrician's office so the doctor can get another sample and then take the new sample - in the proper container - back to Labcorp. So much for a leisurely stroll around the mall with my girlfriend!
Christene is nice enough to do all of this running around and thank heaven she was! She sat in the car with JD while I ran in to the lab both times...otherwise I would have had to drag JD in and out of all of these places. Of course he had to come in to the pediatrician's office with me. The doctor tried to get JD to poop but had no luck so he had to make do with a rectal swab.... yes, JD had another bad day, poor little guy! And I'm sure he's going to love reading about all of this later in life too!
So now the lab has the sample, in their preferred container. When we got home JD filled his diaper for me and there was blood in it... more than I've ever seen. So Dave and I discussed it when he got home from work and decided to stop feeding him the rice cereal. We didn't put it together until the doctor asked if the rice seemed to affect him but he's had more screaming episodes and more blood in his diaper since we started giving it to him. Maybe it's just too much for his damaged system to handle right now. I was kind of hesitant to give it to him in the first place for that exact reason.... We'll start him back on it after we see the radiologist and find out exactly what is going on in there.... maybe. Depending on the outcome of that appointment.
Hopefully JD and I will have a nice calm day at home today. Here's a picture or two, just because I like them....
