JD's Big Day

It was a hot one today but JD got to do lots of stuff despite the heat! It all started around 10:00 this morning when Dave came home in the Porsche. Dave has been rebuilding the engine of the Porsche for about the last 7 or so months. Chipping away little by little, mostly after the kids went to bed. It's finally done and it's running great!

When he got home he put me in the driver's seat and let me take a little drive while he stayed with the kids. I could hear JD screaming and crying as I pulled away so I knew he would insist on riding in Daddy's "race car". When I got back I put his car seat in the very small back seat and Dave drove around the neighborhood with him a few times. Dave said JD kept saying "fast, dada, fast... vroom vroom!" Allie and I sat in the grass in the front yard and waved as they passed the house and JD was SO excited when they got home. He stuck out his bottom lip in the cutest pout when we made him get out of the car.

After the Porsche ride it was time for lunch and nap. Luckily both kids napped at the same time so I could get some laundry and dishes done! After naps we piddled around the house a little until Allie went down for her afternoon nap. When she awoke at 4:30 we packed the diaper bag, strapped the kids in the car and headed to Conway for Riverfest!

Conway is a riverfront town and each year they have a festival with music, vendors and food. This was our first year going and we would have stayed longer if it wasn't for the heat!  But oh did JD have fun!  It started with a pony ride:
While Allie watched from the stroller (this is a 4th of July related festival, complete with boat parade, which is why I have the kids dressed in their red, white and blue):
Then JD spotted the goats so I went in with him to feed them.... they were aggressive little goats and when 4 or 5 of the surrounded us and started licking JD's hands (thinking he had food), he started to get a little nervous. When I was able to break away from the herd and get him next to just 1 or 2 of the baby goats he was better:
After the goats we walked along the river and JD pointed out every boat that he saw... there were a lot! Then it was time to head back to the car because all of us had red faces from the heat:

Since we were already in Conway, we decided to drive by the train station and let JD see the trains. Our friends' family runs the railway but we had never taken JD by there to see the real trains. He got so excited when we pulled in he said "JD drive! Bye bye dada!" So cute, he wanted to drive the train! After that, when we crossed the train track he said "Choo choo tracks. JD drive choo choo!"

So, all in one big day, JD rode in Daddy's race car, rode a horse for the first time, petted a goat for the first time, saw lots of boats and saw real live choo choo trains! He was quite a chatterbox at dinner talking about all of his adventures!
