With no family in town this week to keep my kids occupied I had to re-learn how to entertain a two year old all by myself, all day, while caring for a 6 month old. It's not easy but Allie is surprisingly good at keeping JD occupied now... and vice versa!
Aaaahhhhh... togetherness! I hope they always play this great together. These pictures were taken on Tuesday. First they played with Allie's baby toy thingie. Then, they played with the ABC drum that JD was given as a baby. Finally, they capped the day off by taking their first bath together! I don't think there's anything cuter to a mom of "two under two" than seeing her babies in the tub together for the first time!
JD also learned how to shuck corn and had a lot of fun helping mommy with dinner:
Allie is so close to actually crawling. She scoots on her belly so fast I'm already having a hard time keeping up with her. She gets up on her knees but when she tries to move she'll either lunge forward or flop, landing on her tummy in both instances. Either way, she gets right back up and tries again! The other day she scooted all the way across her room to get to the door stop. She was just lying there looking at it until JD showed her how to make a funny noise with it.... which she thought was hilarious! She sat there for at least 20 minutes playing with the door stop and laughing. I think this goes down as the very first thing she learned from her big brother! (excuse the crappy quality of this video... it was taken with my cell phone)
Today was an interesting day. It started with a movie... at the theater... with Grandma! It was JD and Allie's first big movie and they both did great! JD loved the pop corn (or "corns" as he called it) and we saw Madagascar, which he loves. We made it about an hour before they both got restless and we had to leave but I count it as a successful first movie! I don't think I could have done it alone, though. I'm super glad my mom was with me! After the movie we came home for naps.
After JD's nap we visited his doctor. JD has been having random diarrhea. Every couple of weeks he'll have a couple of days of bad diapers then go back to normal. It's not stomach viruses and I haven't noticed any particular food causing it. I'm also very careful with his fruit and juice intake for this very reason. Not to mention, he drinks so much milk that he should be constantly constipated! Anyway, we went to the doctor's office and I entertained JD while waiting by drawing a road on the paper covering the table and letting him drive his cars on it. We saw the doctor (JD now weighs 26 pounds, 8 ounces... up 2 ounces in the last 45 or so days) and he ordered some blood work. So off to the lab we went! I was kind of nervous about having his blood drawn, not knowing how they did that in someone so small. Turns out they get it from his arm just like they would yours or mine! Anyway, JD did great. I sat in the chair with JD on my lap and hugged his right arm to his body nice and tight. One nurse held his left arm straight while another nurse actually drew the blood. My big boy didn't even flinch. He didn't move one muscle. He didn't even tense up! They drew 3 vials of blood, gave him a band aid and said he was, by far, the best child they've ever drawn blood from. I was one proud mama heading home!
I don't know all the labs the doctor ordered but he did order a CBC and he's also checking for imflamation. The girls at the lab said we should have results by Tuesday.
And here's one last picture for you. JD used to make the "scrunchy face" when he was a baby too. I think it's hilarious!

And Peyton was probably the worst they have ever had. That is great that JD did so well. Peyton didn't like it so much- maybe he will be better with round 2 coming up!!
