Ho Ho Ho!

How fun! This year Allie is totally into Santa. She LOVES HoHo!

Mom and I took the kids to the mall and they both sat nicely on his lap. Allie was a little stunned and wouldn't smile but at least she wasn't screaming! Allie asked for a baby doll and a ball. JD asked for a kitchen and a choo choo. Santa also showed up at JD's gymnastics class during parent observation day and Allie went bonkers when she saw him! So cute!

It has been a while since I did a post completely about the kiddos so let's delve into what's new in their worlds!

I'll start with JD since he's the oldest. He is getting SO BIG! Like seriously. so. big! He's 3 1/2 now and doing all kids of things. He tells the funniest stories. Some make absolutely no sense but those are the funniest! Other times he shocks me with his knowledge. He knows things that I had no idea he knew.... which is a foreign concept for me! He's in the silly preschooler phase where all things poop are funny. I'm convinced he gets it from school. He's really in to drawing pictures these days. Here are a couple of examples. The first couple were from a few months ago. The last couple were from a couple of days ago.

"Worm" drawn by JD in October, 2011
JD drew a spider last week before school...
...and sat in the back seat on the way to school and drew a snowman.... but he dropped the MagnaDoodle before I could take a picture and it kind of messed up a little....
He also LOVES to help. Help me get my coffee ready for the morning, help my dad carry in fire wood, help me put stamps on the envelopes for the Christmas cards...you name it... if you're doing something, he wants to help! He is doing all this cool stuff but the "torturous threes" are not without conflict. He is also doing things like flat out ignoring me when I ask him do to something (or not to do something), talking back, throwing super-tantrums, etc, etc.... hopefully these behaviors will start to subside as he approaches 4 this summer! Because when he's playing nicely, he's such a sweet kid!

Now for little Allison. Allie isn't so little anymore. She'll be 2 in just 3 weeks (yes, THREE weeks) and boy does it show! She's still the sweetest thing standing but she now has a sassy side. And her facial expressions are hilarious! She is a daddy's girl through and through and has her daddy totally and completely wrapped around her tiny little finger. She now calls her binkies by name, i.e. "owl deedee" (her absolute favorite. She has to have owl deedee at all times), "princess deedee", "horsey deedee", etc. I think we're gonna have a hard time breaking this habit a few months after we move! She is also starting to string 4 and 5 words together and is doing a great job of letting me know what she wants/needs with big girl words instead of whining and crying.

So now you're all caught up on them individually. Let's discuss them together. I'm becoming quite the referee.... JD constantly bugs Allie and, when he happens to not be bugging her, she bugs him. They pester the crap out of each other all. day. long! JD has a horrible habit of swiping things from her. It doesn't matter what it is. If she has it, he's gonna swipe it. To the point of... when she sees him coming she immediately clutches whatever it is she has and says "no JD!" We're working on that. Not making much progress, but we're working on it....But then they also communicate well. I love listening to their little conversations when they're actually playing nicely. And it really is so cool that Allie MUST to EVERYTHING that her brother does. No really, she insists on it! But the thing that absolutely melts me is this: They both go to "school" three days a week. In the afternoons I pick JD up first and he comes with me to Allie's room to get her. She always screams "MOMMY!" and gives me a big hug. She then immediately goes to JD and gives him a big hug and kiss. The are genuinely so happy to see each other at the end of the day and I just love that they want to hug each other without me prompting it....

And, of course, the health update. We've had a hell of a year. I'd like to say that the sicknesses are letting up but they're not. I took JD to the doctor for pink eye a couple of weeks ago and learned that he was still wheezing so we went home with eye drops (which he HATED), another round of prednisone and instructions to use his inhaler every 3 hours while his cough persisted. And Allie had an eye infection over the weekend. I'm not sure if it was pink eye, I don't think it was. She also has a cold and she tends to get eye infections with a cold. She hates the eye drops too.... and their sicknesses have finally caught up with me. I've had 3 colds since just before Thanksgiving. The second one lasted two weeks and left the roof of my mouth swollen my sinuses were so bad. That's not a pleasant feeling... it was painful. Luckily that went away without my having to visit the doctor. When that finally went away last week (Thursday) I got a very bizarre, unexpected, middle-of-the-night-for-one-night-only stomach virus (Friday night) that left me exhausted with a splitting headache on Saturday. Monday I woke with an eye infection so I got to use the drops too (they're not that bad... I don't know what the kids were screaming about!) and yesterday my cold returned. But after all that, I'm happy to have just a cold!
So now you're all caught up on our little family. Dave and I are also doing well. We're both overwhelmed with the building process right now. Dave is focusing on the house and getting it completed and I'm focusing on the kids and trying to provide them with some degree of consistency and normalcy. He's overwhelmed with the vast amounts of things that need to be accomplished to #1 finish the house, #2 get us moved in and #3 get our current house ready to be listed for sale. I'm overwhelmed with #1 getting all the things like light fixtures, towel racks, bathroom mirrors, etc purchased, brought down to the house and placed properly, #2 getting odd things like Christmas cards (which just went out in the mail today), Christmas shopping and birthday party planning done and #3 day-to-day stuff like laundry and dishes done. But we know that we're incredibly blessed to have these things weighing on our minds. We are ready, though to be under the same roof and back to a normal family again in the next month or so!
