We had Allie's 15 month well visit and immunizations this week. I had a long list of things to discuss with her pediatrician. Mostly about her eating habits versus her slow weight gain. This girl eats... a lot. And has always been a very slow gainer.
At birth she weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces and was in the 88th percentile. When she was very little we had weekly weight checks because she wasn't gaining very fast. And she still isn't. At 15 months she weighs just 19 pounds, 13 ounces, putting her in the 10th percentile. The doctor assured me that she's just petite and they don't start worrying until a child falls under the 5th percentile. So we'll keep an eye on it and hopefully that percentile will start to climb. I wouldn't worry so much about it if she didn't eat but my goodness, she eats anything and everything I put in front of her...and a lot of it!
The other area of concern from her visit is her leg lengths. There is still a half inch difference between the two legs and now we're being referred to a pediatric orthopedist in Florence to have it looked at. Our pediatrician says it's probably no big deal but he would be more comfortable having the specialist tell us that. Dr. P said they might do x-rays but will probably just put a wedge in her shoe to prevent back problems down the line. The nurse is setting the appointment up for us so I don't know yet when we'll go but it will probably be fairly soon. Anyway, if you go by her left leg, she's 30.75 inches tall, putting her in the 70th percentile. But, if you go by her right leg, she's 30.25 inches, putting her in the 55th percentile! That's a pretty big difference...
Allie continues to be a sweet, snuggly, happy little girl. She adores her brother and gets so excited when JD comes home from school. She is getting to be more independent and lets you know loudly when she doesn't like something. She's also very loud when she does like something.... yelling in the grocery store when she sees a balloon, for example. She has started saying uh-uh and shaking her head when her answer to a question is no and, just the past few days, she'll say uh-huh for yes. She also adds new words to her vocabulary on a regular basis. Apple is her new favorite. Anything round or red is deemed an apple!
She still climbs on absolutely everything and rarely sits still, but continues to be a pretty good sleeper... as long as she doesn't lose her binky in the middle of the night! She loves playing outside and I try to take her for nice long stroller rides on the days that JD is in school. She's happy and I'm getting some exercise!
I'm really looking forward to spending lots of time on the beach this summer. I think Allie and JD will have a ball running around together on the beach this year!
