My mom brought her sewing machine up today and we sewed up a storm! Okay.... Mom sewed up a storm. I was in charge of measuring, cutting and pinning - which is fine with me 'cause I can't sew a straight line to save my life!
What was our project, you ask? A crib rail guard to keep a teething buddy from gnawing up his pretty crib (that turns into a regular bed so this is it... this is his furniture forever). I think it turned out beautifully! And it was very budget friendly too! I made the whole thing (all 3 pieces) for about $15.00. My mom donated some fabric... she has a huge stash... but even without that it would have been about $20.00 total. You can buy these on Etsy for about $40.00 so, even with the time invested (which really wasn't that much), I got off much cheaper than $40.00!
Now, I can't take all the credit. I found some rough instructions on this blog which were very helpful. That cut down on the time I had to think about the mechanics of making this thing! I used single faced quilted fabric and I think it's still a little thin. If I ever made another one I think I would put a layer of batting in there too to make it just a little thicker. But overall I'm super happy with the end result!
So, without further ado..... here are a few pictures of our sewing project of the day!

Anyway, I'll leave you with a picture of JD helping Mommy with the measuring. Mom and I are working on another sewing project (yes, you read that right). We're making a cloth "Happy Birthday" banner for JD's first birthday party. I've bought the fabric and mom is working on sewing it while I cut out the letters. I'll be sure to post it when it's complete!
