It seems strange to have something other than the kids to write about.
Anyway, the house is on a bit of a delay. We were supposed to have started construction by now but we've run into a bit of a snag with Georgetown County Water & Sewer as well as storm water permitting.
The W&S issue has been resolved and we now have water running down the long road to the site. The electric lines will be installed sometime within the next couple of weeks now that the easement paperwork is near completion and the septic application has been approved. The storm water permits will be a different story. My dad is working with some engineers (one of which is a good friend of ours) to get that completed but it will be at least 3 weeks before that can be done. Once that is done, a plat will have to be recorded, giving our particular parcel it's own tax map number (right now it's just part of the parent tract) and a deed transferring ownership will then be recorded.
Once all that's done, our contractor (who is also a good friend of ours) will be able to get a building permit. So it looks like it will be at least a month before we'll actually be able to start construction.
It's amazing the things that have to be done when you create a new road and build a house in an area that currently is just forest. I'm just thankful that my dad is doing a lot of the leg work and we have such great friends to help us navigate through the maze of red tape!
Hopefully the next time I write about the house it will be to post pictures of the foundation being poured....
